FCM Conference - Day 4 VBlog

Today was the final day of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference, and it ended with an eye-opening tour of one of Edmonton’s newest recreation centres. I thought it was important to view a modern facility in a large city to bring perspective to Guelph’s pending South End Community Centre. While our centre has a projected price tag of nearly $60M, this spectacular Edmonton facility cost more than $120M. So while the comparison isn’t going to be accurate, I thought it would be a good benchmark.

I’m at the Edmonton airport waiting to board my flight back to Toronto. It’s been a revealing (not to mention exhausting) four days and I look forward to attending the 2016 FCM conference in Winnipeg.

Note: in the interests of accountability and transparency I will be posting within the next week or so a full financial accounting of my reimbursed expenses for this Edmonton trip.
