More on Niska Road
On November 27th the city held a public information meeting concerning future plans for Niska Road and its single-lane bridge (PDF download). As you can see from the photo above, the meeting was packed with residents who looked forward to the opportunity to learn more about the study. The environmental assessment is still ongoing (and far from complete) and this matter will not come to council for some time. The Guelph Mercury wrote an article about the meeting too.
The city is seeking your comments and concerns. You can download a survey from the city website and submit it by December 19th, 2014.
I had a chance to talk with many residents about the environmental, community, heritage, and traffic issues concerning this study. There is a wide variety of citizen opinions, though the majority of the people with whom I spoke are in favour of retaining the current single-lane Bailey Bridge on Niska Road instead of expanding it to a two-lane pass or closing it to vehicle traffic completely.
